Founded in 1998, e.tv is South Africa’s first private but free of charge television channel and that viewers often prefer over the government-owned SABC channels. e.tv is the country’s largest English-medium station and airs from Cape Town and Johannesburg. The channel’s popularity is attributed to complimentary blockbuster movies and autonomously generated news shows.
The e.tv website is cleanly designed, easy to navigate and free of external advertising, although an annoying questionnaire pops up intermittently. The homepage features a nightly schedule and a global search function. Viewers can find daily timetables and TV guides as well as information about movies, soapies, sports programmes and other shows that are currently showing. The footer has links to e.tv company information, contact details, advertising rates and job vacancies.
Local and international programs receive in-depth coverage including host and character biographies, episode rundowns and press releases. Although the pages cover everything that would be expected, there seems to be no extra interactive features except for the user voting polls.
