News24 is self-proclaimed as ‘South Africa’s biggest website’ and deals with local and international news stories under topics like sport, finance, politics, science and technology. Content can also be viewed on DStv and certain cellphones.

The main News24 domain branches out into a seemingly never-ending network of sub-pages that focus on a particular theme, such as ancestry, careers, food, travel, health, property, cars, entertainment, parenting, sport and more.

For the hurried user, the homepage contains a quick summary of daily weather information, financial indicators and traffic alerts. The left-hand navigation area has quick links to spotlighted news articles, special reports, upcoming events, online games and a variety of columns. Viewers can also use the website to sign up for a selection of daily newsletters via email.

On the downside, many pages are cluttered with too many frustrating text, picture and flash advertisements that are squashed in-between articles. These clickable external links and paid ads can often be mistaken for internal news articles.

That being said, the website is well-designed and has more than enough attention-grabbing stories to keep readers glued to the screen for hours on end. One of the News24 website’s best features is a regularly updated archive of fascinating image galleries that boast snapshots and short descriptions of memorable events from across the globe.
